As you might expect from any manufacturer in the cycling industry, the people at Sportful are cyclists themselves, so they know the particulars of what makes a glove appropriate for different conditions. Too much protection making for a stifling, clammy ride; conversely, too little protection makes for an abbreviated, uncomfortable ride. They designed the WS Leggero Gloves to fill the gap between ski gloves and knit cotton liners, giving us something that protects against all but the worst weather of the year with minimal hindrance. The Leggero Gloves owe their protective qualities to Windstopper 4-Way Mid, which is 25% lighter than the 4-Way Warm, Windstopper 4-Way Light, which is used in less-vulnerable portions of the gloves. The combination of these two fabrics means that the Leggero is best suited for conditions between a summer drizzle and a sub-zero, arctic blizzard. They are slightly less insulating than the WS Pursuit Tech Gloves, but also more ventilating. If you're taking ice core samples at the South Pole, this probably isn't the best choice for you; however, if you want a glove that can handle reasonable winter conditions with exceptional breathability, then you're in the right place. The gloves are water resistant, remarkably stretchy, and windproof, which is quantified with a rating called CFM. CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute, and it's used to measure the volume of air that passes through a fabric in one minute. In order to be considered truly windproof, a fabric must register a CFM of equal to or less than 1. 0, and anything bearing Gore-Tex's Windstopper label -- including the 4-Way Mid and Light materials -- either meets or exceeds this rating. An index finger dot facilitates smart-phoning and touch-screening without exposing your hands to the elements, and reflective accents on the back of the hand help keep you visible in low-light conditions.
